We were still our our hiding place, discussing the visions we'd had and how they should be interpreted for the upcoming battle. We weren't sure how to go about dealing with the growing death energies in the trees, since I've never put life energies into something as an offensive manoever, especially not into something I couldn't see, that wasn't tangible. Thymelixsen said he might be able to make a magical frame that would push my energies in the right way, but that would not be an appropriate way to use the Healer's power, and would take too long, anyway. In the end, it sounded like the best idea was for Thymelixsen to tell me where to put my energies, which I'd focus through the holy symbol.
We went to scout out how the orchard looked now. Before we left our more sheltered spot, I made sure we were all protected by His Mighty Shield.
Visibility was low in the fog, so we had to get closer than I would have wanted Cor and Mirashan to be for Thymelixsen to be able to see a lot of what was going on. He said that the energy had gotten much larger, and there were other spirits attending on it, possibly feeding on it. We went closer, passing a post with strings and wooden skulls and feathers that hadn't been there before. It didn't look like a fetish, more like a sign to beware (or keep out). When we got closer (Cor and Mirashan staying as far as possible behind us), Thymelixsen said that the energy was forming itself a body, like a death nexus, while the other spirits were refining the energy and feeding it back to the main being, also keeping it in place above one particular stump. He said that this didn't seem to be the original plan for the energy (I suspect that would have been to feed the energy to the death spirits already in the rock). He said that there were perhaps 18-20 small spirits, mostly on the 'novice' level.
Our plan: I would cast Touch of Purity into the holy symbol and channel it through when I got to the stump. Before I got to the stump, Jack would cast flaming arrows at it from another point, and get some of the smaller spirits off to chase him in circles. Mirashan would be with Jack, Cor and Thymelixsen would be with me, and everyone would have torches and/or flaming arrows available, except Thymelixsen would have his stars at the ready (to use after he'd directed me where to put my hands).
The plan worked mostly as we had intended. Jack shot his flaming arrow, and a number of the smaller entities went after him, four of them manifesting (time, death, decay, and poison). Once I put the holy symbol in my hands into the right place, I kept focusing on pushing the life energy into this entity. It was hard and strange, having to force life into something noncorporeal, and not wanting the energy, either. The others mostly fought the manifested spirits while I used Touch of Purity in this strange way; Thymelixsen sent some stars into the large entity as well. As with other spirits manifested we have fought, fire was more effective than blades, and a couple of the manifested were dispersed before I finished my blessing. When I finished, the energy was cast out, and the body burst in a flash of silver light. The two remaining corporeal spirits unmanifested, and the others rose and left.
I am so thankful, and concerned about how the others fared in this battle.
