We got to the area that the shrine is in. It's an oval, perhaps 60 yards long and 50 yards wide. The street we were on continues on the other side of the oval, and there are lots of little alleys heading off on either side. There were people around, mostly in the alleys and farther back. Thymelixsen chose a place off to one side, with an overhang, from which to cast his spell. I could feel the oddness of the shrine, but we weren't close enough to get the full effect; Cor had said there was an inner ring that was different.
Thymelixsen said he had to cast another time from somewhere else, so he moved partway around the oval. He faced the shrine as he cast, but he must have already learned about that the first time he used his spell.
Jack still hadn't shown up; I assumed he was still keeping an eye out behind us.
Thymelixsen said that the shrine was to a god he didn't know. It's not Healer energy he recognized at all, more like a mixture of unformed positive energy and life and death energy, all mixed together. It's strong, though slowly fading, as shrines usually do when not reinforced. The even stranger part was that when he looked at the other magic things around, most of them were concentrated in one area, including one blessed with three blessings, around the same level of blessings as mine, and the blessed was of this kind of shrine! Very odd. Of the other items he looked at, they were all identical, permanent life-draining things.
Thymelixsen went partway around the plaza and cast his spell again, to see more of the items and get a better idea of where they were. This time he saw that there was a permanent holy symbol of the Healer in the same place as the blessed, as well as many strong active life-sucking things now gathering life energy and storing it.
Jack wasn't far off (Thymelixsen could tell by the item he'd made for Jack), so Thymelixsen motioned him to come in where we were talking. Jack said he'd overheard two Woegs saying that they had to tell Ru about use being here, doing things at the shrine, though neither of them particularly wanted to be the messenger. There are two Rus that we know of, one Blessed of the Storm King, the other on the Council. I suspect the former, given how Jack described their conversation. If so, they'll likely return soon to stake out the shrine.
Thymelixsen told Jack what he'd found, and Jack went to find the place where all the magic was concentrated. There wasn't time to intervene now, but knowing where the things and the blessed were would make it easier later (tomorrow, I assume).
While Jack was gone, I went with Cor towards the shrine, curious to know what it would be like for me; it had been a shrine of the Healer, after all. When we got to the inner ring of its power, I could feel a large presence walking here. It seemed like a large beast walking nearby. It felt like there was no sense of space with me, because it wasn't paying attention to me, didn't know or care that I was there. Then it turned and looked at me. It was startling, yet familiar, like the moment of connection when praying. Then it came at me, and I retreated as quickly as I could. There were echoing voices in my head, and I tried not to listen to them.
When I came back, the others said that they saw a flash of silver, then a silvery flame. The echoes persisted, and I told them to keep talking, to give me something to concentrate on instead of the insidious voices in my head.
While Jack was sneaking to the dangerous place, he kept overhearing people saying things about a "rainbow radiance" around someone's head. That must be from Thymelixsen's castings.
He got to the building, which was more a wreck of a place with only two walls. He went underneath, and there was one little room below, also lots of thrigs about.
It was late in the afternoon when Jack came back, time for us to leave the area. I really didn't want to be there when it got dark. We headed to the 3 Tenths. Jack went off to his temple instead of coming to the inn; he wanted to talk to the people at the temple, perhaps see whether they could negotiate with the Storm King people, letting them know that I was not there to restore the shrine.
I want to get rid of these voices; I need to find out how to do that. And we need to figure out how we'd go about dealing with the life-draining things, since it seems that there are a fair number of them plus a fairly strong blessed who will oppose us as well.
