[K140.8] 23 Wishna, into the mountains
Nov. 4th, 2008 10:09 pmNow that we were all together again, we told Thymelixsen and Jack about what had happened yesterday, fighting the packtrake. I whispered to Jack that since the end of the wolf line of communication was in the mountains, if he and Thymelixsen go scouting ahead (as ducks), he should be aware that there are things Thymelixsen might need to be kept from seeing. And I gave him his letter back.
People were still feeling a bit poorly, so I used Touch of Purity on Jack, Cor, and Pockwarn while we debated what to do. Since it was still foggy, it was hard to find the best path. It did mean that we were able to keep Jack from trying to go back and see what the wolves and others were doing.
In the end, we headed north, then east, around the lake. Cor was in the lead, though he sometimes went off to the left to scout north, and on one of those side trips he found a reasonable path up to the ridge of the valley. And the ridge of the valley was wide enough to travel, too, though strewn with boulders, which made for slow travel with the horses.
Thymelixsen and Jack flew ahead to figure out our path, while Mocutanz in duck form guided us so we had fewer false starts for our path. We got to a cliff face where we had to go north or south. South would lead to an easier route, but Cor thought that was likely where the end of the wolf line was last night, and didn't want to risk that. So our path will be going north, which has slower travel due to harder terrain.
I checked everyone's health, and found that May had a minor mist spirit in her. That was when I realized that I had, not a curative for mist spirits, but a preventative. *sigh* I should have been paying more attention. May will likely be able to fight that one off, at least. Unfortunately, Thymelixsen has a much larger mountain wind spirit in him, and there's no good way to get it out while we travel, since the only plan I can think of involves covering him up, hopefully in a cave. Or finding a place that is special to the Healer and hoping that His strength would turn to this as well. We needed to keep moving until we find a place to camp for the night, so neither plan is immediately implementable. I told Thymelixsen that he couldn't fly until this spirit was evicted, though, because flying would make it grow. He didn't seem very pleased with that, but he accepted it. I did give May, Jack, and Mocutanz some inkroot to protect them from further wind spirits, at least.
We went north, along an uneven, sloping plateau, which led to a very steep slope, challenging to take the horses down. Cor and Jack found a good route down, and May and I rode each horse down, one at a time. It wasn't easy, and they slipped more than once. But we managed to avoid anything too serious happening. By the time we were all down, it was 5 high bells; I don't know that we'll be able to travel much farther today.
