[K154.22] somewhen, beyond the Veil
Mar. 31st, 2009 10:29 pmOnce we got out of the area with active bugs, we stopped to rest. Eck-Clack and Tek Tek Turka were picking bugs out of their joints, and I went to help them with that; my fingers are smaller than theirs. I healed anyone who wasn't completely well from the battle, though I still can't do anything about those strange spirits Jack has in him.
The light on the horizon was noticeably brighter; we're getting closer to the star.
Once Cor was ready to go again, we set off. I slept, so I'd be able to be on watch later. Jack and Thymelixsen continued as birds, scouting ahead.
Cor woke me when we got to an area of trees that were active, passing things from one to the other, things that turned out to be kathel remains. They were passing them from the area we're headed towards, back in our direction.
May and I could sense the work of the Hidden Lord in the trees, with several dense nodes higher up in the trees. They didn't feel like the bugs, which had a flickering sort of energy, but something more substantial. When Thymelixsen sensed magic, he found that they were the same kind of blessing as the little bugs, but at a much higher level. We got past a full tree, and noticed that the trees seemed to be passing the kathel remains from fuller areas to emptier trees, and some were crunching kathel together, to fit more in. This went on for about a mile, after which the trees seemed much emptier, though still active. Here there were the larger bugs, huge wasps that could sting, but no smaller bugs.
Eck-Clack and Tek Tek Turka indicated that there was something off to one side, about an hour away, one of the wood-ships we'd seen flying before, though this one was not flying, nor was it on fire. We decided to detour there.
When we arrived, we found that the ship had crashed into a tree, and was suspended sideways in a broken tree, even though it was larger than the tree. There were bits of tree detritus on the ground, also kathel bones, which haven't been picked up by the trees, interestingly.
Thymelixsen and Jack flew up to explore the ship; Jack came back briefly to get torches. They were away for an hour or so, time I spent praying and meditating.
When they returned, they described what they'd seen, which included long, thin people, all dead, and a variety of clothing and objects they didn't know the purpose of. They'd brought some of the clothes, which were flexible and shiny in a way like metal. Cor tried to cut one, and it didn't work. These would be ideal for us, both very light and very strong, resisting puncturing, which is what the wasps might do to us if they become interested in us. We all put some on, making them fit as best we could.
We all went up, climbing or being pulled up by rope. I checked the bodies, but they had been dead a long while, and there was no essence left.
Tek Tek Turka scanned some of the bodies as well, then called us over to show us pictures of these long people, carved in a frieze somewhere. He had many pictures of them: they are of a race who live at his home place, the race before them, who had had cities. They were called Ults. Eck-Clack and Tek Tek Turka are Keken. The Keken lived in forests, and after the Ults left/died, the Keken developed cities. And the Keken used the arches made by the Ults. There was a third race, but Tek Tek Turka couldn't find a picture of them, though he knew they should be there, which frustrated him. It was like Thymelixsen's researches into the tower, with tricksy information. This third race helped them with the arches.
We asked if the box sensed water, and there were many small pockets of water. Eck Clack and Thymelixsen went to get through a door to get to one of the places with water. But the door wouldn't budge. Eck-Clack tried a lot of different things, but eventually ended up forcing it open. They found a pool of water that had leaked from somewhere. I tried to sense whether the water was potable, and it seemed ok, so we drank, and started filling the waterskins.
Eck-Clack looked at the things that were about, and said that they weren't working, but they used to be. He started sorting them into two piles, perhaps ones that might be cobbled together to work again.
We went to try to find the bridge. We found some places where people had died without being burned, whether from the impact or smoke inhalation or something else. In one of the lower rooms, the bodies were lying on the downward surface, which seemed to be a window, but extremely clear. Cor threw something at it, and the surface darkened momentarily where it touched, then returned to its former clarity. I don't know what it is, but it's not glass.
The door here wouldn't budge. There was still a sense of forest around, though, and I tried picturing the door and it opening. I could feel something reaching back, but nothing happened. We decided to try the other door, which wasn't yet partly busted. This time I felt a sensation of a great forest. I told Thymelixsen, and he helped me, which made things go faster. Still, the ship didn't respond to us. Thymlixsen thought of the whole forest moving, a wind moving through, and the door opened. Huzzah!
In the next room, there were plants that the ship material grows. And there was some kind of black stuff on the walls. It seemed like the lowermost (frontmost if flying) room, likely a control room of some sort. Cor put Thymelixsen in a chair, holding him in because of the angle, and I went behind Thymelixsen to help him. He thought, and the forest responded with fire images, and the idea of winter. Those images loop through, with some longing thoughts of spring. Thymelixsen thought about roots at it, and it replied that it was winter. May started her glowing blessing, and in the forest, the sun came out from behind the clouds of smokiness. Thymelixsen asked where the sunlight would be good, and it said on its leaves. May came to join us at this point to put energy into the forest. May and I figured out how to work together putting this energy of life and growth, and we started to push energy in. And the black on the walls fixed itself, and became clear. The clouds were breaking up over the forest.
Thyemlixsen said that there were certain places with live seeds that might grow roots. He found two of them, and sent light there, but seeds need water too.
